Why does logical log backup runs after onbar -b -L

Hi All,
I'm curious about this... why does the logical backup runs after executing
"onbar -b -L 0".
the scenario is I have script the have a policy PX1_DB which is assigned to
backup the Database. After backing up the database, the logical log runs even
the script does not have any "onbar -b -l" command. Is there any way i can
separate it? i want to use policy PX1_DB to backup the database and PX1_LOGS
to back up the logs.
Hi,
it runs to make sure that the logical logs are really backed up.
This is because the logical logs are absolutely needed in
case of a restore of this level-0 backup in order to bring
the system to a consistent state (i.e. synchronize the
different dbspaces backup times and possibly rollback
open transactions).
For more information you can read manuals or search in
the IIUG IDS Forum as this topic has been discussed with
great length in the past.
Regards, Martin

Thanks Martin,
Yes, you are right. Since the DB backup runs and have the policy
PX1_BACKUP_DB, how can i force the logical backup to run into a separate
policy? e.g. PX1_BACKUP_LOGS.
PX1_BACKUP_DB = "onbar -b -L 0"
PX1_BACKUP_LOGS = "onbar -b -l".
is there a way to do that?... I know if i'm not backing up the DB, it will run
normal., but if it's backing up the DB, it will stalled specially if the DB
backup runs for a long time...e.g. 10 hours backup. and it will run out of
logical logs because it uses the same policy.
Hi,
you can still run "onbar -b -l" in parallel with the
level-0 backup. This is no problem. You don't have
to and even should not wait with logical log backup
until the level-0 backup has finished. At least from
ON-Bar side there is no problem. I don't know
whether there is a restriction on the side of your
storage manager (SM), i.e. it wouldn't start a log backup
while a level-0 backup is running. But such a restriction
is not sensible for ON-Bar backups.
Another question is if the environment, in which
the ON-Bar command is run, determines the destination
media pool for the backup objects. I'm not sure whether
this is what you refer to as "policy". If this is the case
(there used to be one SM, but I forgot which,
having this behaviour), then the logs backed up by a
normal "onbar -b -l" command (i.e. your
"PX1_BACKUP_LOGS") would go to a different media pool
than logs that get backed up by the "onbar -b -l" that is
automatically run directly after the "onbar -b -L 0".
This is because the latter would inherit the environment
from the "onbar -b -L 0" (i.e. your "PX1_BACKUP_DB")
and thus also the destination media pool. This is only
a problem for an SM that defines the destination media
pool via the environment. For other SMs it should not
be a problem.

Thanks Martin, After experimenting some parameters,it worked as i expected. I need to setup INFXBSA_POLICY=log_policy into log_full.sh in order to automatically back up the logs even DB backup is running.
