Re: Linux and Informix Help Needed
Posted in 1998
That is the same error I got when I downloaded Informix-SE for SUSE
and Installed it in my Red-Hat 5.1 Box. Try the following (Since it is
not working with local pipes connections :-):
in the $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts file, change the protocol to sesoctcp
(instead of seipcpip). The service name (usually sqlexec by default) must
have an entry in the /etc/services file (ie. sqlexec 1520/tcp ). That
means
you will be connecting to your local machine using TCP/IP with sockets.
And, you must start the daemon process, in order to have someone to listen
for connections:
$INFORMIXDIR/lib/sqlexecd $INFORMIXSERVER
That means, the sqlexecd receives as a parameter the servername you gave
to your SE-engine in the $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts file (The first entry).
----Large Example (using se with tcp-ip and local pipe connections)----
1)The file $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts file contains the following entry:
NOTE: Here the example assumes, that you want to have both, local and remote
connections using the same database server.
mydbselocal seipcpip myhostname sqlexec
mydbse sesoctcp myhostname sqlexectcp
2)The file /etc/services contains an entry for the service using tcp-ip in
this case, the service name
is sqlexectcp, but you can use any name.
sqlexectcp 1520/tcp # The service for mydbse Engine
NOTICE: That it is not necesary to include the service name (sqlexec) in the
services file,
since it will not be related to any tcp-ip service.
3) Check that your hostname(in this case myhostname) has an entry in
/etc/hosts file:
4) At this point, if you want to work with SE using pipes (no tcp-ip
involved), just assing
the database-servername to the INFORMIXSERVER environment variable:
Bourne-Shell
INFORMIXSERVER=mydbselocal;export INFORMIXSERVER
BUT, if you want to use the tcp-ip services, you must start the daemon
service firts.
Example:
$INFORMIXDIR/lib/sqlexecd mydbse
At this point the sqlexecd process will begin to listen for connections on
port 1520, now, it is
just a matter of modifying the INFORMIXSERVER environment variable such as:
Bourne-Shell
INFORMIXSERVER=mydbse;export INFORMIXSERVER
and you will be connecting to the same database server, but now using tcp-ip
services.
