The only ways are to try connecting to it or to try creating it. If the connect fails, it may be because it doesn't exist, or it may be because you don't have connect privileges. If the create fails, it may be because the database exists, or it may be for any of a large number other reasons. You can also play with ISQL or DBACCESS and see what databases these list.
