You'll need to make changes to your /etc/system file and reboot for them
to take effect.
The following is in mine, but you may need to change, based on versions,
memory available, etc.
THe Informix installatopn doc covers this. Look at the ipcs, ipcrm, and
related commands for listing and cleaning up shared memory without
rebooting. Informix tends to neglect cleaning up its shared memory when
it has trouble starting, then it can't find enough on the next attempt.
