Jonathan: My only point was that the r-commands are indeed NOT required. I
was under the impression that IDS uses the ruserok() and rcmd() library
functions for at least a portion of the user validation and those functions are
indeed included in the Linux libraries. If oninit is indeed simply emulating
the authentication protocol that rcmd() uses that's fine. I only meant to
reassure Rupan3rd that this was not a problem.

No I do not and if you read carefully I did not say that the r-commands (ie
the rlogin and rsh commandline utilities) needed to be installed for IDS to
work. I only stated that the rcmd library calls ARE present and if anything
were needed it would only be those functions, so not to worry.
