USER in forms...the answer is.....

Some time ago I asked how to use the "USER" variable in forms. What I have is "plain'ole" ISQL/Perform, no 4GL, no ESQL/C, etc...... Thanks to all of you who responded trying to point me in the right direction! After reading your responses and re-re-re-reading the Infomix documentation I discovered the following in the release notes (TOOLREL_4.1) for the software: "...... Using C Functions From Ace and Perform -------------------------------------- This section appeared in the original 4.10 Engines Release Notes (ENGREL4.1). What follows here is a similarly worded update. As part of the unbundling of engines and tools products, the capability of customizing ACE reports and PERFORM forms (ACE and PERFORM are in the INFORMIX-SQL product) with C language routines was removed from INFORMIX-ESQL/C and is now incorporated into the INFORMIX-SQL product. Information on this capability now appears in the INFORMIX-SQL Version 4.10 Reference Manual Supplement. ......" Reading my "INFORMIX-SQL Version 4.10 Reference Manual Supplement", I find the section "Calling C Functions in ACE and Perform" with the introductory line that reads: "This section discusses calling C functions from INFORMIX-SQL. If you do not have INFORMIX-ESQL/C, you can skip this section." Since I have plenty of other stuff to read, I had believed this "written" word and skipped this section of the reference manual supplement! ******** Don't believe "some" of what you read, read it ALL! ******** My answer is THERE!.....you don't need 4GL, ESQL. Plain'ole ISQL/Perform will accept function calls. I still can't directly use "USER" in a form, but I can write a C procedure that returns the system user login name which is what I need!
