While alot of managers do want a college degree, the gpa is also important (in my experience). I got out of a decent college with a 2.67/4.00 (major: 2.98) and many places wouldn't even LOOK at me because of that. My friends who got through it with a 3.5+/4.00 got higher-paying jobs working for bigger companies and some of them even like their jobs! What I'm trying to say is, with the way things are right now (US I figure), having the piece of paper which states "I are smart" is just as important as the numbers which back it up. Of course I can code rings around those friends of mine, but they can do the math and theory alot better.
