what elkie holland said about me on usenet july 23rd 2001 to end my career ...
Posted in 2005
Not a technical thread at all: a poster (cross-posting to comp.databases.pick, .revelation, .informix and uk.consultants) reposted a four-year-old 2001 message from a UK IT recruiter and claimed it had blacklisted him from contract work. Replies told him to move on, argued that work isn't life, that agencies don't share blacklists and that there are plenty of other agencies, and suggested his own hostile posting style was the real obstacle; some suggested job newsgroups. Mostly flames, with no technical problem or resolution recorded.

written by elkie holland: www.prospectus.co.uk (agency) I doubt there is an agency who would touch him !!! We won't be ! Thanks though for the helpful suggestion of taking this squabble somewhere else. It's ended up in my inbox - how I don't know. Please rest assured that his "foul mouth" is still in operation although his vocabulary seems a little limited in colour ! ;) Do you think he has time to do any work ? I feel sorry for the employer who is currently paying him for "working !" Kind regards Elkie Holland IT Recruiter (serving the MV Community since 1986 !) (correction from a previous post of 1996!). ------------------------------------------------------------------ "Here is a place of disaffection Time before and time after In a dim light: neither daylight Investing form with lucid stillness Turning shadow into transient beauty With slow rotation suggesting permanence Nor darkness to purify the soul Emptying the sensual with deprivation Cleansing affection from the temporal. Neither plenitude nor vacancy. Only a flicker Over the strained time-ridden faces Distracted from distraction by distraction Filled with fancies and empty of meaning Tumid apathy with no concentration Men and bits of paper, whirled by the cold wind That blows before and after time, Wind in and out of unwholesome lungs Time before and time after. Eructation of unhealthy souls Into the faded air, the torpid Driven on the wind that sweeps the gloomy hills of London, Hampstead and Clerkenwell, Campden and Putney, Highgate, Primrose and Ludgate. Not here Not here the darkness, in this twittering world. Descend lower, descend only Into the world of perpetual solitude, World not world, but that which is not world, Internal darkness, deprivation And destitution of all property, Desiccation of the world of sense, Evacuation of the world of fancy, Inoperancy of the world of spirit; This is the one way, and the other Is the same, not in movement But abstention from movement; while the world moves In appetency, on its metalled ways Of time past and time future." ts eliot (burnt norton)
That's over four years ago. I suspect it is time to move on and get a life.

It seems to me that by keeping this post alive, it is only perpetuating the cycle... If you let it die and move on to something more productive, it would make this a learning experience. By continuing to post, the terms "obsessive", "vindictive", "vengeful", "stalker", and "restraining order" all come to mind as possible reasons for dismissal and not considering the person in question as a reliable employee you want working for you. Besides, there are so many people out there who lost jobs due to downsizing that you are probably not blacklisted, it's just that there are better people to pick from who are less volatile. In other words, I would focus on anger management and getting and keeping a job, even if it is only volunteer work at a school or charity to start with. Feel free to flame away. It will only prove my point... ;-)
>No, they hold *some* of the jobs. They hold the jobs which pay well.
(tronic5572@yahoo.co.uk) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying : >>No, they hold *some* of the jobs. > They hold the jobs which pay well. They don't hold all the jobs which pay better than Tesco. GET OVER IT! MOVE ON! FFS... What the hell would you be like if ever you were faced with a *serious* issue?
tronic5572@yahoo.co.uk wrote: >>No, they hold *some* of the jobs. > > > They hold the jobs which pay well. So the solution is to spew random idiocy onto Usenet? It might be smarter to show us a little of your vaunted brilliance. Maybe convince us that you're /not/ a complete loon. Then perhaps somebody might find a job for you. Luke
OK, I'll bite ;) What did you do to upset them? I've used more than a dozen agencies. One of them "tried it on" with iffy contracts, which I refused to sign and they modified them EXACTLY as per my request; One of them was a really lousey payer (some payments being 6+ months late) due to clerical errors. I would have made a big deal of it, but, due to more clerical errors their end, they accidentally over paid me about £6K :) By and large, I'm in favour of agencies. I make more money for less effort with them than without them. Show them the respect that you'd hope they should show you (and, mostly, do) and you are unlikely to have any problems. So, tell us, why have the agencies blacklisted you? What did you do to upset them?
Madge O'Reene wrote: > So, tell us, why have the agencies blacklisted you? What did you do to > upset them? Based upon his postings here I wouldn't touch him - very immature and unstable.
AFAIK, agents don't use blacklists, as it doesn't serve their purposes, i.e. would require cooperation between them, which doesn't happen. This is an urban myth that has been around forever. Indivigual agencies may "blacklist" you, but there are so many out there that even if you had annoyed 50 to the point of being blacklisted, there'd still be loads to chose from. If you honestly believe you are blacklisted, by all agents in the country, then just change your name and email, etc. They'll never know, or even check. If you are employable, they will get you a job. They live on margin, they really don't care about anything apart from that. Nor should they.
Of course, if you are unemployable because of your hostile attitude, or your skills are not in demand any more, then blaming this situation on some convenient person from your past is probably easier than facing up to your own shortcomings.
Cross-posted to 4 newgroups? Only 4? Why don't we all just agree that the glue in his brains has melted - if he ever had any glue - if he ever had any brains - he's beyond redemption and that he likes to hear his keyboard click..... and that, as it stands, and has stood for years now - he's a waste of space ... and I'm feeding his little-dick ego just by responding.... But somewhere, sometime ... Dan Fisher, you are *the* absolute loser. Drink kerosene. It'll do you, and us, good..... And I apologise to nobody's sense of decency over *that*.... Better people than him have topped themselves... and a lot morte quietly.... >Of course, if you are unemployable because of your hostile attitude, or >your skills are not in demand any more, then blaming this situation on >some convenient person from your past is probably easier than facing up >to your own shortcomings. Firstly by posting positive and not negative messages to all the NewsGroups that this/these messages are going to (comp.databases.pick, comp.databases. revelation, comp.databases.informix, uk.consultants). Secondly, as others have said, by disassociating 'work' from 'life'. Thirdly by looking for jobs at, but not exclusively, the following places: news:uk.jobs.contract news:uk.jobs.fortyplus (if appropriate) news:uk.jobs.offered They are just the job Newsgroups I'm in.
