NewEra SQL Cancel Bug...
Posted in 1996
Hello All,
After several fustrtating month with New Era Books all over my desk, I
have found what I think is the root of all evils. We have been in the
process of developing a corporate wide New Era app, and have about given
up. Running under Win 31 we are experiencing all sorts of memory
problems.
I noticed tonight that when I include a setcancelmode to ON with my
connection to the database, there is an incredible memory leak. I
tested this with a .wif with one button that called a proc on the
server. Every time the button was pressed, about 2 meg disappeared off
my machine.
Preheader defined variables only.
a char(20),
b char(20),
c integer,
d integer
Activate behind button opened cursor to handle multiple recs out of
proc:
DECLARE proc_cur FOR
EXECUTE PROCEDURE proc_abc ('date1','date2')
FOREACH proc_cur into a,b,c,d
DISPLAY a,b,c,d
END FOREACH
FREE proc_cur
This is simple code...memory loss did not occur when the cancel mode was
not set in p or c code.
What gives - - - some of these procs take a while to run, and I need
windows active (not that that is a good thing).
Anyone run into this??? Any work arounds???
James Saville
Thanks in advance...
