Well, good luck with other methods. Because you sound dissatisfied with current procedures - hence the question, you need to try something new. Either you'll find something suitable or in the process you'll discover that everything requires rules and procedures, and maybe it'll be enough to show people that at least the rules and procedures of ER are, after all, worth putting up with.
