On a 4Mb 80386, with SMARTDRV.SYS set to grab 1024Kb and DOS5 loading as much high as possible, it kept rebooting or jumping to the C:\\> prompt. I eventually got it stable by trimming smartdrv to 256Kb and removing any unwanted memory requiring resources. It would seem as if 8Mb might be a good idea.
