I am in process of bringing up a test instance (see, there I go again, already) of Oracle. In talking with an Oracle DBA in a different state agency, I got myself "wrapped around the axle" when we were talking about "databases". It finally dawned on me that the term "database" does not mean the same thing in Informicx and Oracle. As this thread indicates, other terms are different, too. Of course, to me, the Informix model seems more, well... elegant. It just seems "more right" that the term "database" should not include the notion of processes or threads. Etc., etc. But, then again, I'm sure if I had originally worked in Oracle, I would likely perceive Informix's "one set of processes for multiple databases" as, well... "messy". Bottom line: I gotta do what I gotta do (what the boss wants). So, I also gotta learn Oracle/Informix "translation". DG
