unix buffering and database inserts

Hi I have a couple of problems. I have a script which parses the records in a data file, assembles a call record, and writes that call record to a load file. After parsing all the call records, the script invokes isql and loads to a table from the load file created. Problem A - when the load file is passed to isql for insertion it is not closed and properly written to disk. Is there any way to ensure that the file is closed when it is passed to isql. I thought for a second that sync would be my answer but it appears not. Problem B - when inserting through isql, if there's an error, the process is aborted, is there anyway to continue the insertion even if a record fails to be inserted. Any ideas Austin
