Here are a few details. sqlhosts looks like this:
learn_online onsoctcp luke online
ips onsoctcp luke ips
and /etc/services:
online 1526/tcp # Informix learn_online by zdravc
ips 1527/tcp # Informix IPS exercises
oninit on learn_online works OK!
In either case (ips or learn_online) user informix has no special network
access. (no .rhosts, empty /etc/host.equiv)
here is a diff onconfig.learn onconfig.ips

I kept the diffs to a bare minimum. I cannot start two different
databases with two different oninit and corresponding environment
ONCONFIG and INFORMIXSERVER.
Any further hints? Thank you for your response.
