I'm not sure what you mean. In my opinion, Informix disk areas seem rather prone to fragmentation, and although this can be put to some advantage in releases later than v5, it's just something to beware of in v5. You should try to use raw disk if at all possible, for reasons of performance and integrity. 2. All the spaces. 3. I'd be interested to know what others think! My personal view is to go for many and small because, in the event of disk failure and assuming logs are being backed up as they fill, you minimise the amount of data that could be lost.
