So why do z/OS, OS/390, MVS appear under the software by category link? http://www-306.ibm.com/software/sw-bycategory/ and since that section on the page is operating systems where is AIX?

IBM throws them in with hardware, but others see them as software. This is why they do NOT belong to any of the software division (grey color). It's a cross reference. When you follow the link: http://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/zseries/zos/ Servers.... > > and since that section on the page is operating systems where is AIX? Apparently noone bothered to x-reference it. Same with OS/400... http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/aix/ Perhaps because noone actually goes hunting for AIX. It comes with the pSeries box. IBM is not Sun. IBM does not love or push AIX in it's own right. The OS is needed to sell the box. I must say that I find it rather amusing how the webpages are being disected on the hunt for conspiracies. I'm waiting for someone to psycho analyze the choice of colors. Was green chosen because IM is green with envy at Websphere's success? More importantly: Will IBM purchase the Teletubbies and introduce a blue one for rational's sake? Some food for thought: When you listen to IBM's quarterly reports you may find references to "core middleware" That's the software in the software brands which drive software revenue growth. Most of what's not branded (grey) is either part of IBM's legacy software business or those things that are necessary but not strategic. Examples are e.g. the compilers..
