Well, Kerry, I don't think you should shut up. I think that there are enough valid reasons to have such a facility that it warrants inclusion even if the performance is poor. There is a reason it's FAQ, and that's because a LOT of people ask about this capability and I think sometimes the lack of it turns people to other database companies. This is the one feature I can think of that lots of people want and whenever people ask we have to say, "Informix doesn't handle this elegantly, but you can put in a clunky manual solution..." At any rate, maybe this Illustra thing will solve the problem with it's "snap-in" modules for *any kind* of data types (by the way, apparently the term BLOB is about to oudated and they are now the term DataBlades). Maybe all we have to do is create a data type under the Universal Server which makes upper and lower case letters the equivalent of one another - and voila - everything will work. Personally, I am really looking forward to the WorldWide satellite event in February - the product does sound great - maybe this sophisticated technology will even provide an answer to this simple problem for us.
