It uses hardware RAID on an ultra wide bus to control an eight disk unit. The price was significantly cheaper than the Sun semi-equivalent storage array. Something the sales guy recommended was to stripe across multiple RAID boxes using Veritas giving you potential multiples of 40MB/sec transfer rates. Some Christmas when I've got a lot of dough and nothing to do with it I'm going to try this out. If you do get one of these I highly recommend getting the thing stuffed with a full array of disks as it's not highly reconfigurable due to limitations in the Mylex controller. YMMV. Tex
