Make a deal with him, he can stripe, provided he doesn't get to use RAID 5. Mirror and stripe at the hardware level. *However*, I rarely believe that this kind of thing will solve the problem on it's own. I therefore declare the assumption that you've: 1) Got the right indexes; 2) Got the right statistics; 3) Profiled the code; and 4) Tuned the engine.
