The root dbspace needs about 5MB for sysmaster and sysutils databases plus any space for logical and physical logs at initialization (default is 7 logical log files) although these should be moved to a different disk as soon as possible for performance reasons. Sizing the disks for logical and physical logs will depend on system activity levels and how frequent and extensive global cleanup operations and other very large transactions will be. Sizing the data disk dbspaces will only depend on your table sizes and index keys. The System Administrator's Guide has guidelines for how to calculate disk usage based on row size and key size and number of keys. Manuals are available online at the Informix WEB Site. Art S. Kagel
