Santosh Nikumbh's ontape -p restore on HP-UX 11 failed with errno 13 on /dev/rmt/0m. Khaled Bentebal advised checking device permissions, and Martin Fuerderer confirmed errno 13 is EACCES. Santosh fixed the tape drives, then saw repeated 'DR: Server type incompatible' on the secondary. Ajay Gupta said this appears because the primary tries to connect before the secondary is restored, and can be ignored until HDR is registered.

Hi,
Iam doing a restore on an HP-UX 11
The tape operator has cdleaned the drive and mounted the tape ....
But when I run "ontape -p" , it gives :-
Please mount tape 1 on /dev/rmt/0m and press Return to continue ...
Physical restore failed - function read archive backup failed code -1 errno 13
Here are TAPE config parameters of the target system:-
TAPEDEV /dev/rmt/0m
TAPEBLK 16
TAPESIZE 40000000
Are there any specific solutions to these "errno" 13 ?
if yes, where are they documented ?
Regards,
San
Hi,
You should check your permissions for the /dev/rmt/0m device.
Was your archive on the same device and was it OK?

Khaled Bentebal

Hi,
on HP-UX, errno 13 is EACCESS (see /usr/include/sys/errno.h).
So the meaning is that access rights are somehow not suitable
for your purpose.

Martin

Hello,
I got the tape drives properly done, BUT still have one problem on my
secondary server [ in the logs], when i start ontape -p :-
22:01:08 DR: Server type incompatible
22:01:21 DR: Server type incompatible
22:01:34 DR: Server type incompatible
22:01:47 DR: Server type incompatible
22:02:00 DR: Server type incompatible
22:02:13 DR: Server type incompatible
22:02:27 DR: Server type incompatible
22:02:40 DR: Server type
You are
getting this warning because Primary server is trying to connect to Secondary,
but secondary is not yet initialized. You can ignore it, or wait for secondary
to restore from backup before you register HDR on primary (onmode -d primary
sec_server).
