If so, then only temporary working files would use up locks (FLCKREC). I use the CA-INGRES RDBMS which does use OS files and we've never experienced any problems with per process file limits (MAXUP) or locks. (I suppose an Informix internals expert could clear this up for us.) The SCO default (OSE 3.0) for MAXUP is 25 with a maximum of 200; for FLCKREC it is 100 with a maximum of 500. I have had clients running RealWorld accounting software (Microfocus COBOL) which opens many, many files and hold them open for extended periods; they require setting both MAXUP and FLCKREC to the maximum values allowed.
