One for each instances (mant, dev) and use the same INFORMIXDIR for installation. You switch between instances (or environments) by setting TBCONFIG. In normal practice, one should install informix in the same directory (INFORMIXDIR) unless you have two different informix products (SE vs ONLINE or different ONLINE versions). In your case, I would suggest following steps: 1- Install Informix 5.05UC1 under /usr/bas/informix (i.e INFORMIXDIR) 2- make two tbconfigs: using template tbconfig.std provided by informix. a- cp $INFOMIXDIR/etc/tbconfig.std $INFORMIXDIR/etc/tbconfg.mant b- cp $INFOMIXDIR/etc/tbconfig.std $INFORMIXDIR/etc/tbconfg.prod 3- Refer to your Informix Admin Guide to setup working enviroment for each instance. a- setup rootdbs <----- Be careful about offset b- setup dbspaces <----- assign different dbspaces for each c- setup logspaces d- assign SERVERNUM <--- this number allow Informix Engine to recognize different instances. 4- To switch between environment a- set up TBCONFIG (C-shell) setenv TBCONFIG tbconfig.mant <---- b- tbinit (use option -i ONLY ONCE to initialize your disk) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Hope it would help.
