I think this would leave you a downed primary chunk and I agree with Neil this can't be removed, but if you do the loop again so that the primary now points to a new chunk should be able to off-line the mirror and then remove it. I'm sure you're right but, as I'm sure you'd agree, this isn't really remaing a chunk per se, simply renaming a link. As a method for achieving that, I think a break link, dd, and link re-create is a quicker and simpler method.
