4GL Connectivity

All I am wanting to migrate an application (R4GL 7.20 UD7) from my main database (Sequent NUMA-Q2000 Dynix/pts 4.4.10, IDS7.31 UD5) server to a subsidiary application server (Sun E250 Solaris 8). This application server does not have IDS installed nor do I wish to install an engine if it can be avoided. I have set up O/S connectivity and trusting correctly and can rlogin from one to the other. I have set up SQL Hosts, /etc/services and environmental variables correctly (I have several other IDS instances on various boxes that communicate and use ER) but am unable to 'see' the IDS instance from within the R4GL program. Obviously I need another piece of software, which I suspect is Client SDK, to enable this communication however I can find no reference to confirm this (or whether I only need Informix Connect) or indeed whether what I am attempting is feasible. Has anyone out there run a 4GL application on one box, with no IDS present, and accessed an IDS instance on another box? and if so what additional software/configuration/code snippets are needed to make it work? Thanks in anticipation. Keith ********************************************************************************** This message is sent in strict confidence for the addressee only. You don't need aditional software. What you may need it to tell us what error(s) do you get. Then we may be able to help you. Regards, Fernando Nunes
