(Walt Hultgren pointed out that placing "us" in the distribution line of my previous posting may have caused some local sites to reject it. So, I am reposting with a distribution of "usa". Sorry if you are receiving this for a second time.) -- While others sleep, the fabled Informix Windows NT development team wipes the sweat from its wizened brow and plunges ever onward! --------------------------------- (Wizened???! . . . but before plunging too far, we need to look very closely at how our users work, or plan to work, in the brave new world of Windows NT databases. We need your help! If you are highly involved in Informix (or - gasp! - other relational database products) ponder this: Have you spent lots of time clicking on a gui, though you spend many of your waking hours using a command-line? (maybe you are a Windows or even Macintosh fanatic at home, but live with a UNIX command-line at work; maybe you work in both gui's and command-line interfaces) Do you or others in your organization plan to bring Windows NT servers into your shop? Do you perform your daily tasks on gui's now, perhaps doing non-relational database types of work, but anticipate becoming a relational DBA at your shop in the future? If you answered "yes" to any of the above questions, or if you think the daily work you do is related to the kinds of work a DBA might perform on a Windows NT-based database product, you may be able to help us develop, with virtually no time-commitment on your part, a product that could find its way into your shop before too long. Here's what we want. Two or three members of our design time would like to watch you work for an hour or more. You don't need to put on a show for us, and you don't need to prepare for our visit. We will come to your office or cube; we will take notes, and probably ask you some questions so that we can follow what you are doing as you are doing it; we will be an attentive audience who wishes to learn exactly how you do things *your* way. That's all we need. We promise not to sell you products or ideas, or ask you to justify anything you are doing. We won't talk about ourselves or Informix at all. Of course, we will happily listen to whatever you might want to say to us about Informix or Informix products, but that's entirely up to you. Everything we learn from our visit will be held in strictist confidence within our development group. We are very eager to make such visits to several Informix users within the next two weeks. We prefer sites close to Silicon Valley, but if you are somewhere else within the 48 contiguous states, we may still try to visit you. This is your chance to have your work style and needs reflected in our upcoming Windows NT products. We're counting on you! If you are willing to have a couple Informix developers sit with you at your workstation for an hour or so, please call me (or send me e-mail with your phone number) to arrange a convenient time. Many thanks. Rob Weinberg, Usability Guy on the Windows NT Team Informix Software (415) 926-6754 robertw@informix.com
