Online Server, synonyms and data corruption...
Posted in 1999
Firstly, thank-you for your consideration. We have an interesting problem with synonyms and data corruption. Here's the situation: Informix Online Server 7.24 DEC Alpha 2100 running DEC Unix 4.0E We had a row in one of our tables that had corrupted data in it, which caused the query optimizer to run sequential scans against the table when certain values were requested (it is indexed). We changed our synonyms to point to another similar table, which does not contain corrupted data, but the optimizer still refuses to use the index and runs a sequential scan when asking for data similar to what was originally corrupted (whew!). We've deleted the corrupted row in the in the original table, updated statistics on BOTH tables, but the optimizer still insists on running sequential scans instead of using the index. We're left guessing here. We're in an online environment, and the users are not happy with the speed of the sequential scans. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
