Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.

Have you installed the stape driver in the kernel?
Under HPUX you can use insf to re-create the device files
if they are not there.
As for an automatic ontape script you can use cron to
schedule a script which contains the ontape command:
#!/bin/sh
#
INFORMIXDIR=/opt/informix
INFORMIXSERVER=dwh_shm
INFORMIXSQLHOSTS=$INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts TBCONFIG=tbconfig
PATH=$PATH:$INFORMIXDIR/bin LOGFILE=/tmp/backup.log
export INFORMIXDIR INFORMIXSERVER INFORMIXSQLHOSTS TBCONFIG PATH
echo "Backup Started "`date`>$LOGFILE
echo "\\n0" | ontape -s -L 0 | head -100 >>$LOGFILE 2>&1
if [ $? -ne 0 ]
then
echo "Backup Failed "`date`>>$LOGFILE
else
echo "Backup Completed "`date`>>$LOGFILE
