shered memory not initialized for INFORMIXSERVER
Posted in 2009
A user on SCO UNIX reported that starting IDS 7.31.UC5 with oninit failed with "shared memory not initialized for INFORMIXSERVER". Respondents asked for the online.log contents and suggested oninit -v. The log shown only covered a successful startup and shutdown back in October, prompting Jonathan Leffler to note the server apparently wasn't writing to that log and that someone had likely changed the environment since then; Art Kagel added that some IDS releases won't write the online log if started as root and advised starting as user informix. No confirmation or final resolution is recorded in the thread.

So, back in October, you shut the server down. You've not attempted to
restart it since then?
Or what did you do between 2009-10-28 and 2009-11-15 that would make
things fail?
Basically, it appears that your (archaic) version of IDS is not
attempting to use the online log file you showed us. This suggests that
perhaps someone has changed the environment in ways you don't expect.

Certain releases of IDS would not write to the online log if you started it
as 'root'. Have you tried starting it as 'informix'?
