Bank of America's 800 GB data warehouse

A front page story in this week's Computerworld is about Bank of America's 800 GB data warehouse. With 1,800 MPS, it runs 2,000 queries per day. An analyst says it is the closest there is to a full enterprise data warehouse. They say that 1,200 users are expected to "pummel" the data warehouse daily. In January, BoA upgraded its AT&T Teradata system to an AT&T GIS 3600 computer with 102 processors. The new machine is at least 50% faster. The bank is experimenting with Informix on the Application Server section of the hardware, where a knot of processors have been cordoned off to function as symmetrical multiprocessors for on-line transactions.
