Page 21 of the "INFORMIX-NET/ INFORMIX-STAR Installation and Configuration Guide CLIENT/SERVER INTERFACE VERSION 5.0" defines the dbservername entry in the sqlhosts file as: "a unique name that identifies each Informix database server product on the network. The Database Administrator sets up the dbservername before an Informix database server is started. The dbservername for an INFORMIX-OnLine database server is limited to 18 charac- ters. It should be identical to the dbservername in the INFORMIX-OnLine configuration file (tbconfig). The dbservername for each INFORMIX-SE database server can be an arbitrary name.
