Allocation of extents for Index

Hi, I appreciate if someone could help. How does IDS allocate extents for detached indexes. I have seen some of our indexes have large number of extents(more than related table).Does "next size" on table is applicable to index as well. thanks in advance. regards
I don't know the answer to your question, but I'm pretty sure that "next extent size" on the table has at best a pretty indirect influence. Think about it, this would be a nightmare, wouldn't it, because a newly-built index is usually far smaller than the associated data set. (detached) index extent size: (keysize + 9 / rowsize) * extent size which I take to mean: Add 9 bytes to the column size of the table in question's primary key; divide it by table rowsize; multiply this by the (first) extent size; round up; this is size in kilobytes of table's index extents manas_ifmx wrote: > > Hi, > > I appreciate if someone could help. > How does IDS allocate extents for detached indexes. > I have seen some of our indexes have large number of > extents(more than related table).Does "next size" on > table is applicable to index as well. > > thanks in advance. > > regards -- Paul Watson # Oninit Ltd # Growing old is mandatory Tel: +44 1436 672201 # Growing up is optional Fax: +44 1436 678693 # Mob: +44 7818 003457 # www.oninit.com #
