Is anyone using the latest version of Crystal Reports (8.x) to query a IDS 7.x database? It appears that Crystal ignores indexes on date fields and goes into a sequential scan. Crystal has been worthless to us in assisting on this matter. Any help would be greatly appreciated. David

I don't understand this. Crystal is a report writer and not a database engine.
So it is informix which is doing sequential scan. At worst Crysal can generate
a faulty SQL which is fooling informix into doing sequential scan.
The best way to debug is to get hold of the SQL which runs against informix.
Fire the report from Crystal and look at onstat -g sql <sessionid>.
Once u get the SQL, run that SQL with set explain on.

I have been using crystal reports 8.5 against INFORMIX 9.3 Work group Server on Linux for over a year. I use it to provide web based excel format sales info though our company private web site for our sales personnel across the nation. The web site is running on Apache on Free BSD. I really only use Crystal to get the data from Informix to Excel format. I build tables with data I want with 4gl and store it as dedicated tables that I rebuild every night. Then all crystal does is simple selects with very minimal joins. "David A.
