Ooh, I forgot that IBM spends all the earned IDS money in this "clever" Smart Planet campaign. So why worry about the missing IDS product awareness ? IBM is doing such a great job with the "Smart Planet" campaign for all of it's Informix customers, Informix ISV's and Informix partners. They all love this matchless campaign. It really helps them with their own Informix related business in so many ways that any additional IDS product awareness in the marketplace would be needless. It is good to see that IBM is so serious about it's Informix customers, ISV's and partners an reinvests the earned Informix money in such a clever and aim-oriented way. It couldn't get better :-) instead of creating any product awareness for IDS.

I'm just tired to hear from IBM that they are doing so many things for IDS and everything looks so bright. It's just not true. The comments from the analysts that only name DB2 confirm that outside of the existing Informix community nobody is aware of IBM's dual database strategy. IBM is doing nothing to create real IDS product awareness. They love to squeeze the money out of the Informix customers and welcome the help of partners and ISV's, but are not willing to spend a single dollar to advertise IDS and make it more known and attractive to the market. I'm loosing my patience on this and personally will no longer accept this behaviour. It isn't fair to handle Informix customers, ISV's and partners this way as they are the ones that make IBM Information Management look good quarter after quarter.

IBM hasn't done enough in terms of brand or product awareness of IDS. Of course in terms of marketing, IBM markets well IBM, and maybe some stuff at the division level. It looks like they're trying to make the statement reminding people of their hayday when no one got fired for choosing IBM. That is that you can trust a solution from IBM, regardless of the components of the solution. Unfortunately those in the *real world* know better. That you can't trust a vendor to deliver on a solution. Not just IBM, but also SAP and Oracle. Does anyone remember when Nike publicly blamed Oracle and SAP for their billion dollar loss due to an inept migration to SAP on Oracle? Unfortunately, IBM marketing won't spend dollars on marketing a product or a brand these days. They won't do a benchmark and its a losing battle to get them to try. The real point of getting IBM to do a TPC-E benchmark was that it would mean a commitment to IDS because it would mean getting in to a war with Microsoft. So one has to wonder what IBM could do with all of that money saved from not positioning their products or incenting the sales force to become educated on IDS? Maybe its keeping the inept management team in place and paying their salaries? Sorry, IDS is a great product that is *everyone's* 'dirty little secret'. Even IBM's.
