4GL: Characters for Window Borders

We support a site that uses a vt220 terminal emulator called QVT/Net 5.0 (by QPC.com) to make telnet connections from PCs over a LAN using an NT server to an Informix database on an RS6000 AIX machine. The termcap entry for vt220 includes the gs, ge, and gb capabilities, but the switch to graphics mode isn't happening, so the Informix window borders look like the characters lmkjq and x. On another system with the same QVT product, also connecting to a RS6000, the graphics are fine, but that one isn't using an NT server. Has anyone had a similar problem, could the NT server be stealing the "ESC-(-0" (graphics start) string?
