Data Migration

Hi,
I am planning to migrate data between the following Informix versions:
IDS 10.00.FC10W4 to IDS 11.50FC9
Both are located on different operating systems (first one on HP and second in
Linux.
The database has tables with tenths of millions of records and I guess that
dbexport and unload commands might not be as efficient to do the migration
since there are time constraints.
Is there another more efficient way to do this data migration?
Thanks,
Vasilis
Vasilis,
Try using a combination of dbload and the High Performance Loader (HPL). You
can do parallel loading then. I use HPL for multi-million row ( and large )
tables and then multiple dbload scripts to load data in parallel. The problem
with dbimport is that it is one table at a time. If you want minimal effort
then use a combination of dbimport and the HPL. With a bit of file changing
you can use HPL for the big tables and leave dbimport to do the small ones.
What sort of time frame do you have and how big are your DB´s?
If you need help just ask.
Cheers

You can use my dbcopy utility (in the utils2_ak package) along with the
mk_dbcopy.awk script in the utils4_ak package to copy the data directly
from one server to the other. If you modify the shell script that
mk_dbcopy.awk builds for you you can copy multiple tables in parallel and
even copy the larger tables faster by assigning multiple copies of dbcopy
to work on them by giving them ranges of keys to copy. I just did that for
a client and a copy that had been taking almost 12 hours using HPLoader to
unload and reload the data finished in under 3 hours.
