Problems accesing IDS on Windows via IPv6

Hi all, We're having connection problems on a Windows XP-Pro test machine from clients. I didn't do the IDS 11.5 TC3 installation myself, just the instructions on how to do it. After installation everything went fine, test databases were successfully created ans visible to .net development tools (already installed on the machine) via Client-SDK 3.5. So far, so good, but... When we tryed to access created databases on the server from client machines they were inaccesible (-908 error: Attempt to connect to database server <servername> failed). So we double check everything on the client: SDK-Installed, services and hosts files, accesible server (via ping) and everything was unsuccesfull. I mean Ilogin demo didn't worked, even specifying physical ip adreesses or numeric ports... So we go to the server and check connectivity there. All was successfull locally. So we started to suspect there were no comunication on port 9088 (default with IDS installation), so we chek no firewall were down no antivirus, etc... but it didn't connect either... So finally we did a netstat -an to check for port 9088 and we get this: C:\\\\Program Files\\\\IBM\\\\IBM Informix Dynamic Server\\\\11.50>netstat -an | findstr 9088 TCP [::]:9088 [::]:0 LISTENING 0 That seems like IPv6 addreesess like Vista ones... I check on a IDS 11.5 TC3 we had on a laptop and we get this: D:\\\\Archivos de programa\\\\IBM\\\\IBM Informix Dynamic Server\\\\11.50>netstat -an | grep 9088 TCP 0.0.0.0:9088 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING So... why the difference? given the fact that clients and server were both on XP? We tought it has to be with setnet32... there is something new with hostnames there that one cap prepend an asterisk to host machines so hostname looks like "*hostname"... so we tryed with an asterisk and without it but it was always the same: -908. I think a possible solution is to uninstall the server (backing up databases of course)and re-install everything from scratch, but... that looks pretty boring and to be truth we want to know what is happening. So if anyone had an idea it would be (as usual) really appreciated. J. --000e0cd59d1a400c44046a314dee
On the server
Do you get any errors in your online.log file?
What does your sqlhosts file look like?
What do the parameters in your onconfig file for DBSERVERALIASES,
DBSERVERNAME AND NETTYPE
On the host
What are the values in your setnet32 under the host information and server
information tabs for the
target machine.

Hi Jean, What is the SQLHOSTS setting in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\\\SOFTWARE\\\\Informix\\\\SQLHOSTS\\\\%INFORMIXSERVER% ? If there is a leading "*" this can cause IDS Windows machines with IPV6 to listen on IPV6-only. (It will be easier to code around this when we can stop supporting XP/W2K3 and make use of Vista/W2K8/W7 dual stack.) Your options would be to change the SQLHOSTS entry to a value that resolves to an IPV4 address only, or change the OS resolution order to resolve IPV4 first.
