backup on OWS 7.22

I need to backup the database and logical logs in a program, but I don't want to use the utility 'ontape', which needs interaction with the user (yes, no, etc.). I would prefer some functions or some tools I can use in ESQL/C, where I can do my own output to screen. Who can tell me about those functions or methods to do backup without 'ontape' ?
