Variable Initialization

Hi Users... I am facing a peculiar problem in one of my esql/c program. The program has in the EXEC BEGIN & EXEC END SECTION around 100 fields. one of the stmt is double qty_a, global_seq=1, global_ctr; While compiling its gives me an error Error -33040: Object 'global_ctr' was not declared. But when i removed '=1' from the statement it works. I tried using the same in one of test programs but it works. Can somebody tell me what the -33040 means. Thanks in advance..
