Our Informix User Group in Colorado has been told a variety of things since last September - by Informix. They started by telling us that we would be required to hire an Informix consultant for a minimum of three days. Then they talked about a couple of potential courses being required. Last I heard, the classes are only advised now. Basically, the story kept changing depending on when I heard it and which Informix person I heard it from. The courses are now a reality. One is a course for people who have never used OnLine. The other (I plan to take) is migrating from OnLine to the Dynamic Server. >From people at Informix I trust: These engines (OnLine & Dynamic Server) are VERY different and the training is HIGHLY recommended. One quote: "Version 6 is a whole different beast - the engine has been completely rewritten". Our problem: They are only offering a single course on migrating from OnLine to the Dynamic Server between now and the end of the year in our area. Unfortunately, this is being offered at a time when two of the three people on our staff who should attend have conflicts. Actually, I believe there are only 16 of these courses offered nationwide (U.S.A.) in that time frame. Excuse me! But this seems a little ridiculous for something they would presumably like us to move to and are recommending so highly. One Informix trainer - who is a really good guy - had no clue why Informix has scheduled things this way. I called the person at Informix who is supposed to address these concerns and left voice mail - I think this was a couple of weeks ago or so - and she has never gotten back to me. I would REALLY appreciate it if someone from Informix could explain to us why so few courses are being offered for something which is so highly recommended.
