I believe that would be because these shops might still be trying to
decide whether to trust oracle and rman. We tested for about 6 months
before starting to implement, and still are not totally implemented.
Rman was not very good when it came out so I have been told.
We did not have such fears when moving thru Informix's ontape,
onarchive, and now onbar backup utilities.

The problem is that people look at an initial implementation and, mistakenly, assume that future implementations will be no different. Thus the people that think OPS became 9i RAC became 10g RAC or that 10gR1 RAC is 10gR2 RAC. A product, and its features, must be re-evaluated with every release. And right now there is nothing on the market better than RMAN unless you spend huge sums of money for an EMC or NetApp with flash mirror / flash restore capabilities ... and even then I'd rather have RMAN. -- Daniel A.
