BZZZT! Data Goob, your slip is showing. ;-) I had to cut your entire dribble because there was nothing of relevence. Seems you have yet again bought in to the marketing droids spin on reality. Remember that myth of "the database wars are over"... They weren't and aren't. ;-) Larry and Bill told you that cause they couldn't keep up with the advancements. Sun has made some mistakes, however they are correctable. Sun has a long history of thinking outside of the box, and that is why they have been successful. Its when they think within the box, that they get nailed. Sun for example remaining a hardware vendor. That decision is what hurt them in the long run. Are they dead? No. Not by a long shot. Can they be resurected ? Sure. But it will take a lot of hard work and some creative thinking. Just a real quick gaff made by sun. HP created SAM. IBM had SMIT. What did Sun have? HP has Openview. IBM has Tivoli. What does Sun Have? But hey, what do I know? ;-) Other than it took Informix 7 years to figure out that data encryption was one of the next steps in database development. ;-) But getting back to Sun... the next wave of developments is in multi-core processors. There's going to have to be some tweaks to OSs to really take advantage of it. Along with cells. IBM has the lead, however there are areas where SUN has the capability of knocking out some good kit. Of course you mention Linux. Linux from an OS perspective is a kludge and a fat pig. If Sun were to "get smart". They may want to try and develop a different opensource kernel. One that is much more efficient. The point I am trying to make, or in this case beat in to your thick skull is that as long as Sun stays concervative, they will die, however there are still options and things Sun can do to compete and become a top tier player. - ;-)
