Dear newsers, thanks for all your help. The Problem *is in most cases* solved. BUT WE STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM !! I'm sorry to tell you that nothing of your HINTS helped, but the fact that nobody had any problem with the initialisation of Construct Fields drove our decision to spend some more hours for the solution of this problem. Read the answer and the new question at the end of this article. Jonathan Leffler (johnl@informix.com) wrote: : You haven't tried using NEXT FIELD instead of CONTINUE CONSTRUCT; this : would do more or less what you want. The same technique should be used in : INPUT statements too, when you need to set the value in an AFTER FIELD or : ON KEY (or BEFORE FIELD) clause and want the value to 'take'. Jeffrey Sturm (jsturm@garnet.msen.com) wrote: : Richard, : I have used this technique successfully. The only difference I can see : between my code and yours is I left out the "continue construct" statements. : I don't think they are necessary at the end of a code block, it will resume : the construct automatically. Does it help if you remove them? Richard Bahcic writes: Now it *is normally* running in the way the documentation describes 1. with the CONTINUE CONSTRUCT 2. with the NEXT FIELD 3. with NONE of the above statements =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- And here is the `bad guy' who causes this REPRODUCABLE ph'nomen: It is a `WORDWRAP' or `WORDWRAP COMPRESS' attribute in the attributes list of a muliple-line field in the corresponding Form file !!!!!! Removing this attribute immediately solves the problem, but now we do not any longer have a multiple-line field !! Neither DISPLAY nor INPUT WITHOUT DEFAULT statements spawn more than the first line. And we really need BOTH of the features. So, the new question is: HOW CAN I SUCCESSFULLY INITIALIZE A MULTIPLE-LINE CONSTRUCT FIELD ???
