I had the same problem. The answer from Informix was (as i remember ) : " The select system call can only accept 5 waiting connections. Startting of the sixth one, it gives the error : no space left on device. Someone ought to recode this ... " When I checked with ps, i saw the sqlexecd looping. I had a procedure : kill the sqlexecd, change the portparameter in /etc/services on every machine and restart sqlexecd. Due to lack of performance, I replaced the machine by a much faster one, and had no problem ever since ... Guy.
