7.10 problems
Posted in 1995
Good day,
We seem to be going through lots of problems with our implementation of
the OnLine Engine.
We're running 7.10.UD3 on an HP-9000/I70 (2 processors) with 10.01 HP/UX.
The database was created using DBNLS = 2. We are running with 33 DB
Spaces
and 320 MB of RAM. There are 50 users accessing from IPCSHM and 50
configured
for SOCTCP. Shared memory occupies approximately 80MB of RAM with enough
virtual memory that we no longer keep dynamically allocating additional
memory segments.
The database was originally in a separate DBSpace but was placed in the
rootdbs this time
around thinking that might have something to do with our problems. The
logical logs and the
physical log are in 3 separate DBSpaces. (logical logs are split across 2
with even IDs in
one and odd IDs in another).
Anyway, here's a brief synopsis of some of the issues. Yesterday morning
I attempted to
execute a "oncheck -cc" and it immediately returned an error code 0
(zero), Unknown Error Code.
A call to Tech Support resulted is unloading the data (150M rows),
recreating the database,
and them loading back the data. Along the way of reloading, we started
executing a
"oncheck -cDI" and it told us that that some indexes were not correct.
The message on the
screen suggested that we drop the offending indexes and rebuild them.
We dropped, rebuilt and again ran "oncheck -cDI" with the same results.
We dropped, rebuilt
and again ran oncheck with the same results. We dropped, rebuilt... Well
you get the picture.
We tried putting the index in a separate DBSpace without success.
We also cannot create an index without specifying the DBSpace. If we
attempt to create an
index with "create index idx_ux1 on table(col_nam)", the engine crashes
with an Assert Failure,
Arithmetic Exception error. If we issue "create index idx_ux1 on
table(col_nam) in dbs01", the
index builds and the engine is happy.
I realize that this is a lot of information to digest but we've been
working with this problem and others for several weeks and are not getting
any answers from Tech Support.
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!
