Hi all, Art, I just had a look at the presentation of Conference 2009. I saw NOT TO USE Raid 5. Can you explain me why not? Performance? Thanks! Danny

Hi Danny, Art will probably explain to you what's about technically. I can tell you that from a security point of view, you should not use RAID 5. Some years ago we had our production instance under RAID 5 and one day, all of a sudden, we lost our disks, in spite the fact that they were monitored. Our dealer was not able to give us an explanation about what really happened. We had to restore our instance from the last available backup. Today we have all our production instances under RAID 1+0 and besides the security issue, we have also improved performances. We still use RAID 5, but only for our test et development instances. Thanks for the link!!
RAID5 is unsafe ant any speed! OTC sent you the link to the BAARF site where I assume you read my paper on the subject as well as the two others from well known Oracle experts. Also scan the twitter-like blurbs in the membership list where people have posted their own horror tales. Oh, yeah, and join BAARF! ;-) Art Art S.
