Re: Informix and Time Series

Hi there, I have some experience of the time series data blade. TS is based around calendars, these are either regular (ie every day/month/minute whatever..) or irregular (today, yesterday, next friday as required). The calendars are highly configurable and have exception lists (ie Every weekday except Dec 25th, Jan 1st etc). A user defined record type is defined and the user then inserts these records into the database (multiple records in a single col if you want). There is then an extensive collection of routines for extracting the data. These may be used as is or extended/altered using Inheritance. For me the real power is in data warehouse situations where there may be many records with validity periods (ie from this date to that date the customer had a credit rating of B). Validity periods are by their nature irregular. The built in methods of the DataBlade allow me to then say select sum of account balances by week for the first quater from customers where the customer lived in the north the customer had a credit rating of B the customer was Female THe where clause can be catagorized by the time period under interest. Say I lived in the north during month 3 of quater 1 then it would be possible to sum the balances into the total for the weeks I lived in the north (or for any of the other parameters). Very powerful. Craig.
