No, because they aren't valid and have no significance even to Informix termcap. > captoinfo shouted that these are not valid names for termcap entries: > 11,12,13,14,BO,DS,EE,G1,G2,G3,G4,GC,GD,GE,GH,GL,GR,GS,GU,GV,HE,HI,Hc,Hf, > Hi,Hr,Hu,KA,KB,KC,KE,KF,KG,KM,KN,KP,KQ,Ka,Kb,Kd,Kg,Ki,Pe,Po,RT,ZA,ZB,ZG, > cD,ca,dn,gb,ge,gs,kB,kG,kK,kX,kY,t0,t1,t2,t3,t4,xv Captoinfo is correct. I don't know why those capabilities are cluttering up the Informix termcap entries. There is a pair of bugs B24936 and B24937 which relate to this (they are a pair to ensure that both the Engines group and the Tools group have to deal with the problem). I will add your more extensive list of redundant capabilities to the list in the bug report. Yours, Jonathan Leffler (johnl@informix.com) #include <disclaimer.h> =========================================================================== Bug B24937: DIFFERENT TERMCAPS ARE SUPPLIED BY ENGINES AND TOOLS See Tools bug B24936 and Engines bug B24937 (common problem P24367). The problems with $INFORMIXDIR/etc/termcap are legion: (1) Engines has an SCCS file engadm/termcap; Tools has an SCCS file sqlmisc/termcap. They almost certainly differ. (2) The Tools termcap defines 15 attributes for vt100 which not used in any known termcap implementation (and, in particular, not our one). These should be removed from this entry, and all the other entries which contain them. The attributes are: HI, Hf, Hi, KA, KB, KC, KT, KU, KY, KZ, Kd, Ki, Pe, Po, xv. (3) There are significant differences between the system /etc/termcap and the ones supplied by Informix. For example, for vt100, the system version defines :do=^J: whereas Informix defines :do=\\E[B:. As ^J does the job, it should be used as it needs fewer characters sent to the terminal. (4) The list of supported terminals is erratic. Key terminals, such as Xterm, are not supported. (5) For some terminals, the Informix termcap entries redefine the function keys so that they work correctly for Informix (and not for any other software -- see bug B08462, B09561). For others, the Informix termcap entries don't do the function key mapping. Proposed fix: (1) Create a common directory for building termcap files: call it termcap. (2) Split the existing termcap file into component entries, which are separately maintained under SCCS. Hence, there'd be files vt100, sun, sun-cmd, xterm, ... (3) Amalgamate, rationalise, streamline, test the existing termcap entries. (4) Provide a build process which builds the distributed termcap file from component entries. The list of terminals can be defined in many ways. And the dependencies can be defined, so we can ensure that those terminals which depend on using the vt100 entry have a vt100 entry to refer to. (5) The termcap files can be documented at two levels of detail. Level 1 simply identifies the version control information for the component file. Level 2 documents what features are present in the entry and why. The Level 1 documentation should be included in the composite termcap file which is distributed. The Level 2 documentation can be stripped out as the composite file is created. A simple way of distinguishing between the two is to use '# ' to introduce a Level 1 comment, and '## ' to introduce a Level 2 comment. CRITICAL POINTS: ** The same solution must be adopted by Tools and Engines! ** The solution needs to be applied to Families 4, 5, 6, 7 simultaneously. ** The termcap code must be held in common. Addendum: The following invalid termcap attributes were identified by: >From: kundrat@hron.ef.tuke.sk (Kundrat Peter) >Subject: IX realted TERMCAP question >Date: 8 Sep 1994 14:16:06 GMT >X-Informix-List-Id: <news.8550> 11,12,13,14,BO,DS,EE,G1,G2,G3,G4,GC,GD,GE,GH,GL,GR,GS,GU,GV,HE,HI,Hc,Hf, Hi,Hr,Hu,KA,KB,KC,KE,KF,KG,KM,KN,KP,KQ,Ka,Kb,Kd,Kg,Ki,Pe,Po,RT,ZA,ZB,ZG, cD,ca,dn,gb,ge,gs,kB,kG,kK,kX,kY,t0,t1,t2,t3,t4,xv Of these, gb, ge, gs, ZA are valid Informix extensions. All the rest are bogus as far as I am aware, though a few may conceivably be BSD 4.3 termcap entries with no terminfo counterpart. This is unlikely, however.
