4gl strings

A little insight please. I am running on the online engine with 4gl version 6.01.ud2. I have a program that prepares a statement from a lengthy variable--char(700)-- This string is built from a serires of logical expressions that combines two other variables. The first contains the "select" portion of the statment and the second completes the statement from "from". There a couple of conditions that dictate this. After the prepare the prepared string is declared, and opened with the proper variables. The program works on my test system, but fails on the live system The error, when I get one is 201 sql syntax error. When I try to put in displays error messages and prompts I have a variety of problems with dumps etc. What is interesting is that the error statements usually truncated from the length I specify. My concern is that I am violating some string length or temporary string space problem. But why does it not fail on the test machine.
