Julie, When coming to user-id's it's BIG difference between Oracle and Informix. Informix are dependendent of the OS, ie each named database user must have a UNIX login. Then just grant permissions to that UNIX user. Quite simple and straight forward. You can compare it with Oracles OPS$ accounts in some way. However be aware that PUBLIC gives access to all UNIX users (as you mentioned) so a revoke of grants for PUBLIC is most of the times necessary if you have security considerations. /Regards, Mats Mats Johansson Former Informix employee
